Transparency in Stained Glass as a Tool for Re-imagining Relationships and Building Meaningful Collaborations

Saturday, September 30, 2023
2:30 PM
- 3:15 PM
Hyatt: Grand Ballroom A

The transparent quality of stained glass brings with it a certain degree of aesthetic unpredictability. Artists who choose to work in stained glass need light to animate their creations, and light changes constantly.

Debora Coombs harnesses transparency to create relationships that bridge opposite worlds, connecting unpredictable with predictable. In this presentation she will offer practical ways to use transparency as a design tool, techniques for learning about and manipulating the full range of transparency and opacity, and how a community project created a meaningful stained glass experience for schoolchildren.
