Class Description:

You can create a portrait, a landscape or an abstract piece in this class. Whatever you choose, you will achieve the monochromatic look by using a tone-on-tone color scheme in your artwork using a single color, tones, tints and shades. You’ll be working with high-end stained glass, glass tiles, Italian millefiori and an optional touch of one other color to “pop” and “highlight” your work. This is a comprehensive workshop and you will be supplied with inspirational photos to choose from to support your design and create your project. I’ll take you through the process of understanding monochromatic mosaic art with instruction in composition, design, space, value, movement and understanding contemporary andamento in the PowerPoint presentation and group conversations.

I will help you make decisions about arranging elements that will be developed in your personal artwork. We will discuss techniques in contemporary mosaic works and direct each student to develop their own style to express their own vision with limited colors of monochromatic materials. The lessons taught and instruction given will last the student long after the class is over. No question will be left unanswered. This workshop will include a PowerPoint Presentation, demonstrations and hands-on exercises. If you do not finish your mosaic, you will be given enough material to complete at home.
